About
Ah, where do I start? First and foremost, I’m a grateful Christian who tries and fails every day to live up to the grace and mercy God has shown me. I am a blessed woman, and I am on my knees every day thanking Him for not only the blessings but also the challenges, because the more challenges are thrown my way, the more I understand that I can do nothing without Him.
I’m also a mom, and oh, how I love being a mom. Wait until you meet the lovely ladies who have given me wrinkles, gray hair (expertly covered by Miss Clairol, of course), and more laughter and love than my heart can sometimes take. Princess E is my firstborn, type A, perfectionist, opinionated, moody, fiery redhead (why no, she’s nothing like me – whatever gave you that idea?). She wants to be a fashion designer and loves – no, adores – dancing, gymnastics and producing at least-weekly Broadway-worthy productions for anyone who will watch. Princess G is my hysterically funny, sparkling, happy-go-lucky blue-eyed blonde with a three-dimpled smile that could light up New York. She’s also a Diva with a capital D, quietly cultivating a ferocious competitive streak that will serve her well when she either competes in the Olympics (name your sport) or is nominated for an Academy Award.
Who am I kidding? It’ll probably be both. In the same year.
Then there’s my dear Knight. We’ve been together almost 20 years now, and like any couple who’s been together that long, sometimes we drive each other crazy. Mostly because he’s a guy, and he does guy things – the majority of which make me go “eewww” or “duh.” But when I really need him, he’s there on his white horse ready to defend me, even though he knows – having seen me go through one 46-hour labor marathon from hell and an unmedicated five-hour best labor and delivery experience ever – I’m tougher than he is and rarely needs his help. I just like it. And he likes me. So he’s there. And I’m glad.
Which brings us back to me – the self-professed Queen. Besides my Queenly duties, I’ve just started a freelance strategic communications business after ten years at a PR firm. (What? Bad timing? Didn’t you know that the best time to start a new business is during a gigantic economic downturn? Heh.) I’m also writing my first book, although at the rate I’m writing, I’ll be finishing it up in the nursing home. And, I teach computer science at the princesses’ school. And pom classes at their dance school (I’m sensing a pattern here, mostly involving discounts). Throw some volunteer work in there, along with this blog, and I anticipate sleeping again sometime around 2025.
But dang it, I’m having a good time, and I don’t want to miss a thing. Except my vacuum cleaner. That I can go without ever seeing again. Life’s too short – get a Roomba, go outside and have some fun.
Oh, but read my blog first. Feel free to take your computer outside to do so – it’ll probably enjoy the sunshine, too.
